Restore fro client not connected on network

We have a client on the network I need to restore data from but has only been booted from a CD ROM after the /root disk filled up.

When attempting to restore from the client the restore doesn't start, it doesn't even mount the tape!

Is there some sort of call from the master that causes this problem? If so is there a way around it?

Have you tried starting the network and NBU Client processes?
 
Yes, from an NB and network point of view everything is OK. I'm guessing that the NB restore manager makes a call to the client during the restore and this causes the problem, but someone out there will know better than me.

 
Hmmmm, looks like there is a bug in V4.5 which will NOT allow alternate client restores. This has been identified by Veritas but there is not yet a patch which can be used to fix the problem.

Will have to wait for a fix in SP6.

 
I have had the same problem with alternate client restores. I had an instance yesterday in which i had to actually restore data back to the master server and copy it back to the server in question. on thing you can do is the following

create the following empty directory on your master server

Install_path\Netbackup\db\ALTNAMES

under that directory create the following empty file

Install_path\Netbackup\db\ALTNAMES\No.Restrictions

When this files exists on the master server, clients can access backups belonging to other clinets if the Netbackup client names setting on the requesting client matches the name of the client for which the backup was created. The peer name of the requesting client does not have to match the Netbackup client name setting
