I'm using NetBackup 4.5 MP6 / with exchange agent.

I have a full exchange backup

I want to restore exchange - but not to the default location on the Exchange server (ie Recovery Storage Group).

Is it possible to restore the mdb and stm files to a separate server (basically a win2003 app server) ?

By "full" exchange backup, I'm assuming you mean FULL backup of the "Information Stores"?

You can recover the Exchange database to a new server because we did it for legal reason's. We had

It was to say the least..painstaking

There's alot of thing's you will need to do in order to recover it to another location. Your best bet is to open a ticket with Veritas and consult with their Exchange expert's.

Holy crows! I'm not in this actual situation but need to plan for it (ie total site loss).

I thought that at a minimum, I'd be able to restore the mdb/stm files to a separate server and either mount to RSG or interrogate with 3rd party tools to extract mail.

I've looked at the 2003 DR guide which points to The section labelled Exchange 2000 Alternate Server Recovery Overview is the one I want.

Looks like a rethink is in order.
