Hi all.
I have this problem with ARCServe 2000.
When i restore a file, the manager tell me that all is ok. It tells me the transmitted data, the time used, but, when i go to check the file, the file is only 16 or 20 Kb large.
So in this moment i'm without backup.. I think that I have it, but restore doesn't work and the manager tell me THAT WORKS.
Any ideas??
Thanks.
Roberto

Hi Roberto,

Does this occur with one file only?

Have you tried restoring another file?

I think your restore is working fine. The problem sounds like the file was too small when backed up. Try restoring an onder version of the file from a different tape.

I forget the exact name but are you using Microsofts single source technology? SSI I think it is called. Any ways it is where there is only one copy of a file and the other locations have a pointer.

It sounds like only the pointers are getting backed up. There was some update on the MS side that broke the proper backup of these files by ARCserve.

Make sure you have the latest updates installed.

Hi.
I've tried with other files also.. This particular file is a .PST file, and is 172 Mb large. I tried with an .XLS file, and is the same thing...
I have backup agent installed and the file is not a shortcut..
In fact Arcserve tell me that 172 Mb were processed, and 50 Mb read from tape (i suppose is compressed).
Maybe the proble is about tape compression incorrectly handled by Arcserve???
Thanks for the help..

Try using the Restore Wizard.

I had this problem once where I couldn't restore as you mentioned above, however it was with an older tape.

Also check that your patches are up to date !

I'm just experiencing the same problem. My patches are all up to date and the server is dedicated to backup. The device is a Compaq DLT tl891, i'm not using DFS on Windows 2000. Even during the restore the file size is displayed correctly but it is not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you verified and proven that data is actually missing from your files after the restore? Try to backup a file that belongs to you. Restore the file to a different location and see if there is data missing from the file. Your problem sounds very odd.

Data are not present in the restored files but seem to be present on the tape...Arcserve has not reported errors in the backup job or in the restore job but the restored files are consistently smaller than they should be, howewer the dimension on the tape seems to be correct. I tried to restore in the original location and in a different one with all sort of files but got the same result.

HI,

Are you backing up the PST file remotely?

If so , are you using the NT client Agent..

IF not the PST restore will not work.

Using a NT client agent to backup/;restore a PST will work fine..

cheers
