I have a full backup from a db called 'A', which has been deleted. I tried to create a new db and call it 'A' and load in the backup. I get an error telling me that they aren't the same and it stops the restore. Any idea how to do this?

Thanks.

Sarah

I don't think you have to create the database before you load in a backup. I've restored databases to SQL Server by just executing a restore. It then creates the database for you as the restore is loaded. Regards,

Sarah,

Which version of SQL Server are you running? If you are using SQL 6.5 or earlier, you must create the database device before restoring. The device must match the previous device perfectly - number and size of segments.

If using SQL 7 or later, you don't need to create the database first. However, you can do so. When restoring to an existing database, you need to set the option to overwrite the exising database. Terry L. Broadbent - DBA

I have successfully recreated my SQL 7 db. However, when I open SMS and try to view my collections, I get the following SQL error:

Description: SQL Err>> #208 Sev 16: Invalid object name 'vCollectToSubCollect'. NEXT: SQL Err>> #10007 Sev 5: General SQL Server error: Check messages from the SQL Server. (null)
Error : WBEM_E_FAILED
Operation: ExecQuery
ParameterInfo: select coll.* from SMS_Collection as coll join SMS_CollectToSubCollect as assoc on coll.CollectionID=assoc.subCollectionID where assoc.parentCollectionID="COLLROOT"

There is nothing in the SQL error log. Any suggestions?
