We have done an Informaiton Store backup of our server and want to simulate disater recovery and restore the Information store to a standalone server. The recovery server is running Win2K and Exchange Server 5.5 with SP4 (same as the production server). I have restored from Arcserve, the Information Store. I have tried to run isinteg -patch, and get error jet_errdatabaseinconsistent. I have run eseutil /r, and tried isinteg again, same thing. I have run eseutil /p /ispriv and then run isinteg, same thing. This is frightening. Are my backups failing somehow? Any help is appreciated.

Arcserve is a great product for backing stuff up. I personally feel that Backup Exec is a great product is you also want to restore your data... it also does a bricks level backup rather than a whole mail server.

Check your backup logs to see if you are getting any errors. Are your production and test servers netbios names called exactly the same thing? Do they have the same exact organisation, site and server names? If there is any difference you will get troubles.

Check these, then do another restore to that server (take it off the network first) and run isinteg.

The restore server name is different. It is on the network, so that I can restore across the network. The organization and site are identical, but I can't have the servers named the same on the network.

That's why you get the backup device on the new server and start it off the network. Ensure the netbios name is the same.

See if that cures your problem.

Still confused. I have no way of connecting my tape drives to the restore server. I have tried removing the computer from the domain and the network and renaming to the same sever name as the backed up box, but am now unable to start the Directory Services, as it recognizes that it was server a and is now server b.
