I am running windows 2000 pro with the 4.81
Novell client, I have applied the patch for this
client. When I choose Shutdown from my start
button my pc reboots - everytime. I can put it
in standby or do a restart and that works as it
should, but I cannot shutdown the pc without
holding the power button. This is happening on 2
out of 3 ws with this config. I have uninstalled
and reinstalled the client many times while
testing another problem. I accept all defaults
when installing the client.

Any suggestions?

I had that problem a few times with comapq workstations (older models before win2k). What compaq told me to do was to upgrade the bios on the workstations. I did and it worked.
Some techs told me it's a win2000 problem. my question is are you getting the no shutdown before or after you've installed the client?
if before Try SP2.

Here's the link:

Hope it works.

Just worked on a similar situation this morning on a win98se/3.30 sp3 machine. Agressive Mcafee settings were the culprit.
