I'm trying to figure out if there really a big difference in the two resets. Can someone tell me the main items affected by both.

Thanks in advance!

The most noticeable difference is that with a reset 1 you shouldn't lose any connections using the packet bus, such as IP or ISDN connections. With a reset 2 you will drop those links.

Click below for S8700 Media Server information

Reset Level 1 (Warm Restart)
Duration Up to 10 seconds, typically 4 seconds

Preserves active calls and links. Drops calls in progress.

Reset Level 2 (Cold-2 Restart)
Duration Up to 3.75 minutes (S8100: In a large system, up to 5 minutes)

System restarts. All calls and links dropped. Does not reload translations.

Reset Level 4 (Reboot)
11-14 Minutes

All calls and links lost, server interchange on duplicate systems. Translations reloaded.

So effectively reset 2 takes longer and is service interupting.

Reset one" is suppose to keep all established calls up, but it doesn't always work that way. I was never able to figure why the ISDN s go down sometimes and others times stay up.

If you know you are about to have a power outage, what is the proper way to shut down a 3-cabinet R11 system?

PPN and then the EPN's. Do all your backup's before hand. Power up EPN's then PPN. This is under the FAQ section CaNiBus if you need more..

Mike,

Did you get my emails? I never heard back from you.
