Does anyone here can explain what the differences between the option when issuing a command reset system level 1(warm restart), 2(Cold-2) 3(Cold1, 4(Reboot), and 5(Extended Reboot) on my csi pbx.

Thanks.....

from the top of my head, and it's been a while since dealing with legacy boxes:

reset 1 (warm) resets software applications. You might also lose any applications using the PKTINT like ISDN or C-LAN applications

reset 2 (cold) same thing as one, but reset boards also and the TDM. Don't reload translations

reset 3 same as two but reload translations

reset 4 reboot

This is how the manual list them

Reset system I = interchange processors.
Reset system 1 = warm restart
Reset system 2 = cold restart 2
Reset system 3 = cold restart 1
Reset system 4 = reboot
Reset system 5 = extended reboot

A reset system 1 is suppose to not bring down any calls, but sometimes u loose isdn, all calls up should stay up, but no new ones will be set up for a short period of time.
This is what the book says, the maintenance books available at support.avaya.com has detailed information such as this for the other resets.
Reset Level 1 (Warm Restart)
Duration Up to 10 seconds, typically 2 seconds
Causes reset system 1 command
Spontaneous SPE interchange (those caused by hardware
faults)
Software faults that are non-service affecting
Abort of planned SPE interchange
Hardware bus errors
TN1655 Packet Interface faults
Effects Stable calls are preserved.
System links, and stable feature and service state data are
preserved.
Error and alarm logs are preserved, but all alarms are resolved
except for STBY-SPE and busyouts.
Transient calls (not yet connected), and some user stimuli, are
dropped.
New calls are not processed during the reset.
G3-MT logins, including remote access and system port logins,
are dropped.
If the reset resulted from a spontaneous SPE interchange,
memory shadowing is turned off, and the standby SPE will not
be available for service until memory is refreshed (several
minutes).
Application links such as those to AUDIX and CDR are dropped
and reestablished in under 2 1/2 minutes. (BX.25 links are not
dropped, and CDR data is buffered during the outage.)
MSS activity is aborted.
Translation data is preserved, but if translation changes were in
progress, the reset is escalated to Reset Level 3 (Cold-1).
If core dump is enabled for this reset level, reset is delayed until
the core dump is complete.
