Reset Chassis command when S8300 is present. 1

Hello,

According to the documentation the G450 does a hard reset when the Reset Chassis command is used. I would think that when an S8300 is present you would need to shut it down gracefully before using this command. Is this correct? One person I work with says that the Reset Chassis command automatically does a graceful shutdown of the S8300. This doesn't sound right but want to get clarification.

I always thought the blade was powered separately, so you reset the chassis, but the blade stays powered.

A simple "uptime" on the CM/S8300 would confirm that. You could easily kill a server by pulling the power during an OS shutdown, so I can't see the 450 trying to do that.

Kyle555, that is yet another theory I haven't heard. It would be great if I could find a document which had more detail about how the reset chassis command actually works. We use it as an alternative to cycling power as the majority of our gateways are spread across the country.

Uptime would work if I were willing to take the chance of crashing one of my LSP's for a test.

reset all by itself doesn't reboot the 8300
reset chassis does.

Thanks for checking, that is what I thought would happen. The next question is, was the reboot of the S8300 "graceful" or did it just drop immediately?

Thank you so much Kyle555, you answered my questions for sure. I will be sure to continue to advise my team to do a shutdown on the S8300 before resetting the chassis.
