Requiring login for Voicemail Pro module

I have a VMPro module that I only want to be accessible if the user has logged in. This seems like it would be a common thing to want to do, but I can't figure out how to do it.

It doesn't really make a lot of difference to me as to how the user accesses the module, so a direct short code is fine, or modification of the normal collect flow (which I also can't figure out how to do, assuming it's possible).

Specifically what I want to do is to allow people to call in, authenticate, and toggle a relay on the IPOffice switch, which will unlock the front door, so if you can think of another way to do that that I haven't suggested, that's fine, too. But the authentication is a hard requirement, obviously.

Maybe then the best thing for you to do is SIP trunk an Asterix off the IP Office and use it for VM services.

Or replace the IPO altogether!!! You clearly are not happy with it.

I don't like telling people that it can't be done, luckily I don't do it very often!

Well, I overstate the case. I'm impressed with its reliability. It's only oddball stuff like this, and a few other things, that I really have issues with.

I've come to find that not having a feature is often less frustrating than having a feature that does not work right. IMO, this is an example of a feature that doesn't work right.

There clearly was an observed need for authentication (since it was implemented at least twice), but someone decided that users didn't need any access to it. This is all what I mean by being hacked together. VMPro can authenticate from the IPO, but no one else can, apparently. The Phone Manager Pro/Light app can authenticate against the IPO, but using a separate data store, both of which are configured through the same program.

(I have some other problems, too. The need for reboots due to configurations changes seems too common. It also occasionally needs a reboot but it doesn't realize it. When I was initially setting it up, and once or twice since then, a configuration change has caused the entire system to reset to factory defaults, throwing the config away. I've gotten obsessive about saving off versions before I make changes. Other than the latter problem, which happens very infrequently, they're not too big of a deal, though.)

I got a little frustrated because the responses here seemed not to be "I don't think you can do that; here are some close alternatives", but "why would you want to do that?!? the gods at Avaya haven't told us that that's an appropriate choice to make." But I'm probably just being irritable today.

All that said, if I had a choice here, I'd definitely go with Asterisk over IPOffice. But I'll readily admit that it's not for everyone. It requires a good amount of desire to fiddle. IPOffice seems to find a good middle ground of being flexible, reasonably easy to configure, moderately foolproof, and having a good default setup that works more or less out of the box.

The only way for authentication is hotdesking.

Make some hotdesk users, give them a "login code" then give them a "user shortcode" to get into the module. If they login, they will be able to enter the shortcode to get into the module. If they log out they can't.

You can use PhoneManager Pro to login the phones for you.

Be more specific on the "authentication", complaining on vmpro is not the option, I bet you can with VMPRO but if you only work with it once an a while then you just seen 10% of it's capability.

Give me an example of what you exactly want and i will try to build it.
But you need to be very clear because i still do not understand what you want.

You want to do *T but what should *T do ?

honey, i fried the IP Office !!!

Sarcasm, it's only one of the services I offer.

If you want to use the extensions pincode then you need to built a menu with ??? as touch tone.

Then next you add a generic action with $ as pin.
This should use the extensions pincode.

That the module not work that bas send you is because he probably uses a 6.0 vmpro and you are using 5.0 or lower.

I will build the menu and pincode bit with 5.0 for you.

Here it is.
You need to build the rest yourself because i do nto know what you want to do with it :)
It first asks for the mailbox number (in this case 3 digits) and then it will ask for the pincode which must match or it keeps asking.
