requesting data from microsoft exchange

Hi,
I have recently set up a VPN at work and am now trying to access my work email from home. I can do this fine by using web access. However i would like to set it up using my copy of outlook 2000 i think i have set this up ok, it resolves my mailbox name fine no problems there but every 30 seconds or so a message pops up saying 'requesting data from microsoft exchange' then dissapears and then pops up again after another 30 seconds. My mailbox shows up in the folders list also although it won't let me actually view it!!

any help would be greatly appreciated

yes both but excuse my ignorance but does that matter cause i have the VPN. I can connect to the network and ping all the machines and servers so should i not in theory be able to connect to the exchange server?
