I have a VB.NET 2005 application that contains 2 reports that I created in Crystal Reports for VS.NET 2005. I recently downloaded and installed the trial version of CR XI Developer edition. Now I need to make a change to the these reports, but when I attempt to save them, I get a warning message. The message states...

"This report...was saved in a previous version of Crystal Reports using an older report file format. If this report is re-saved in the current version, the report file format will be upgraded to a new file format, causing it to be unusable in previous versions of Crystal Reports...Do you want to upgrade the report to the new file format?"

Should I update to the new file format? I have requested that my company order the full version of CR XI Developer, but that may take a while. If I update to the new file format, will the users of this application be able to run these reports? Do I need to distribute something with the application to allow them to run the reports? Would it be safer to uninstall the trial version of CR XI Developer from my development machine and then make the changes to the reports in VS.NET 2005?

Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.

Just save it with a new name eg OLD_NAME_XI. Use this one with CR XI and the old one with the older version of CR.

My primary concern is whether or not the users of VB.NET 2005 application will be able to run the reports (which were originally created in CR for .NET 2005 - before I installed the trial version of CR XI) if I update to the new file format.

I just created a test app with a report that was updated to the new file format. It turns out I would need to deploy a new version of the Crystal Reports viewer control with my app. I guess that answers my question.
