Hi All,

I was checking out some of the documentation tools for Crystal Reports (Report Miner and Report Analyzer) and just wondering if anyone had used either product (and if so, what did you think of it?). I'm also considering making up my own app in Visual Basic - has anyone given this a try (and if so, was it worth it or am I just wasting time?)

Thanks,

Doc Tree

Hi,
First try Crystal's own documentation method..
Export the report in 'Report Definition' format..

I use the Report Definition file, then paste in the SQL used by the report, it tends to do as much or more than most of the documentation tools.

Synapse, thanks for the answer, I appreciate it. I have a ton (over 100) reports to go through - is there any way I can create a small vb app to go through the reports and export their definition files?

Thanks,

Dr Tree

Yanno, one of the wizardly sorts around here did that once, I think it was Vidru, but he rarely graces us these days, so yes, it is possible.

Also some of the canned tools do batch processing, and they tend to have a trial period.

Yeah man, I checked some of them out (Report Miner and Report Analyzer) but they were both somewhat limited in what they could do (at least with the trial versions). I'll do more research and see if I find anything and post it up here if I do.

Thanks Again
