I have created some reports using Crystal Reports 9.I have to distribute it to clients who don't have crystal Reports installed in their machines. How do I go about it?.
But I have parametrs in the report which the clients will enter so I cannot send a static report.I saw something about a report application server but i am not sure how to go about it.Can you help?
The report viewers solution would handle the parameter aspect.
Yes, you can use Crystal Enterprise (CE) to deploy reports via the web. I don't use that technology so I better let CE/RAS experts comment on that option.

CUT, Visual CUT, and DataLink Viewer:
view, e-mail, export, burst, distribute, and schedule Crystal Reports.
We are right now using crystal 8.5 for the reports. We are creating runtimes and sending it to our clients. If we move from 8.5 to 9/10 what shud v do?how can v make the reports accessable to out clients???Will they have to buy Crytsal 9/10 inorder to use them???
The reports can be compiled into and executables using VB the C programming languages. If you use the Developers addition you will have a designer tool that will help you build the report into and app. If you don't have developer you can still compile and app using the Crystal dlls and creating opjects from them.
Crystal also has enterprise versions for bot Crystal 8 and 8.5 that will use the Crystal32.ocx to publish via the web.
We currently are running Crystal Enterprise 8.5 with Crystal Reports 8. Since we had no good way to schedule reports to be pushed out by email etc. we ended up going with an add on product called APOS distribution manager. We have heard that the distribtuion features in version 9 and above will eliminate this need for 3rd party software. My questions are as follows: Does anyone know whether Crystal Enterprise 8.5 can run on Windows 2000/Windows 2003 server with active directory (or do you have a link to some documentation on this)? Second is there an upgrade/migration document for Version 9.x/10.x from 8.5? Does anyone have any experience/insight into upgrading to 9.x/10.x with the APOS product installed on 8.5 ?
I am going through this issue right now actually. Apparently CR changed significantly from 8.5 to 9. v9 no longer supports "compiled and distributed" reports, but uses the Report Application Server (which you mentioned originally). RAS is the most scaled down version of Crystal Enterprise. It comes bundled with some versions of CR9 (I am runnning Pro) and is quite easy to install. Just install on a network server with IIS (does not support Windows 2003 with IIS 6). Viewers just need the internet link to server and can run and export reports as needed. Other options would be downloading sample code from web and building your own viewer, or purchasing one on-line.
