Hi all! I have about 1800 "mail-enabled" puclic folders. I have already introduced an exchange 2003 server into my existing 5.5 site and I have begun to replicate system folders and move mailboxes. What is the best way to move public folders? I actually had a guy at Microsoft tell me not to use the pfmigrate utility, but to create replicas on the new exchange server. The problem is we have 1800 folders and subfolders...By default, it doesn't appear to replicate all folders and subfolders...I'm having to replicate the parent folder and then replicate all subfolders within the parent and so forth...There has to be an easier way...Any ideas?

Thanks!

PFmigrate only creates the folder structure. After you've done that, you should setup a replication between the old server and the new one. Once replicated you can remove the old server.

So if I have about 1500 mail enabled public folders...Some with emails in them...Most without, it might be a better idea to use pfmigrate to move the folder structure and then replicate the ones that have emails?

Thanks for the response!

Hi all,
Just reading thru old posts. We are having similar issues with public folders. Thought we set up replication but, how can i tell that replication really has taken place and that everything actually resides on the new 2003 Exchange Server? The property pages on 5.5 and 03 are so different and it is confusing.
We are about 90% done moving all mailboxes from ES 5.5 to 03. Have moved the simple "no issues" mailboxes with little or no problems. The problem starts when a client has been moved over to ES 03, but then cannot access their PF that they have been granted permissions to. Still not sure if PF exsist on both servers and what server is being accessed by the client. Appreciate any advise, tips, warnings, anything... we would like to get off the old ES5.5 soon.
PS..Most clients using WinXP, Outlook 2003
Thanks!

You can see that in the Exch 2k3 sys mgr. Select the concerned PF and check the replicas and replication tabs. Add the 2k3 server as replication partner, after a while you'll see the result of the replication (only possible after pfmigrate).
Don't forget to migrate the system folders.
Grtz, Rein.

Thanks stupman!
We did the pfmigrate back on October. I'll look at the replicas & rep tabs...but i'm pretty sure everything is there. Is it the same scenario with the system folders? Migrate & then replicate?

No, don't need to migrate the system folders, only need to add the replica's.
Grtz, Rein.
