Hi guys,

Iam prolly about to ask a question that has been asked before ....please forgive me if it is.

I want to enable my field inspectors (2) to have ccess to an audit database containing customer information, historical data etc via a laptop.

To enable this I intend to create a replica of an access database. Both office staff and field staff needs access to the database. What are the potential problems with creating a replicate database to enable this ?

Additionally I was wondering if someone could help me with the following:

If the field officer synchronises with the master database then go out in the field...make some changes to a record in the field....but at the same time someone in the office makes the different changes to the same record and field ...which changes would take precedent when it comes time to synchronise the database ?

Thanking you all in advance.

The replica route is the correct one to take for your need. I do this on 20 something machines. I would do Three things.
1- Split the database. This puts your data tables in a backend mdb.
2- Create the replica set you spoke of.
3- Create a mde for your front end.

The mde does a couple of things for you. It lets you preserve your design. It converts any code on your forms to "P" code that executes much faster.

If a record is edited by two folk then there is a conflict. MSAccess has conflict resolver to step through the process of recconciling the differences. I use Access97. I am told the resolver in 2000 is much better.
Hope this helps.
