Replacing System Drive

I have purchased a new drive to replace my existing system drive on a 2003 server. My initial plan was to add a mirror from the old drive to the new one, break the mirror and then run off the new drive. When I attempt to add a mirror it fails and the problem that I find in the event log is that there was a bad block 807 on the existing hard disk.

What is the best way for me to get this drive cloned onto the new drive. The fact that it is a dynamic drive makes things a bit more difficult.

can't you run a scandisk and mark the block as bad, so the OS will not use it?

Your idea is a sound one, i did the same a while back with an ailing SQL server whose disk was on its way out big time.

I have attempted to run chkdsk several times. It says that it finds and corrects issues, but I still receive the same error. Any other suggestions?

I don't believe there are any other applications out there that can clone a dynamic disk, but that would be the ultimate solution.

do you have a copy of Ghost handy?

there are some utilities that can repair bad blocks on dynamic disks, but they are not free ... :/

Not sure if it'll work but check out Acronis True Image. Cheap, works great. I actually use it do do a disk-to-disk backup in addition to my tape backups.

Is ghost one of the utilities that will repair bad blocks on dynamic disks? It doesn't matter to me if the utilities are free or not... I need this replaced and I'm getting very frustrated!
