Is it safe to replace rundll32.exe with the same file from another computer? That file was corrupted on a user's machine and that seemed like it would be the easiest solution but I didn't know if there were problems doing that. I also noticed that there is a c:\windows\rundll32.exe and a c:\winnt\system32\rundll32.exe. Are these the same or do they need to be handled differently?

Thanks,
Shauna

first I'd trying running chkdsk /F (schedule it for next reboot).

Bit confused - why's there a C:\windows folder in an NT installation (someone hasn't installed dual boot in same partition?). The file in \winnt\system32 is the kosher one.

If you replace it with same version file from another installation - or just expand the one on the NT install CD (in \i386), should be ok - if the real problem is that its corrupted.

Unfortunately, I don't know the history of the machine. The IT guy left here before I was hired so I don't know much about things that were set up earlier. I can't imagine why it would have had a dual boot but maybe it did at some point. I've noticed the same setup on a different computer that was purchased around the same time. In any case, I'll give chckdsk a shot and try replacing the files if that doesn't work. Thanks!
