Hi,

I just installed a GB Ethernet Adapter on our Domain Controller. I added it to the pre-existing 100Mbps card.

I booted the system, recognized it fine, drivers & software loaded OK (Intel PRO/1000 MT Server Adapter). And it gave the machine a new IP address for the card -- 169.152.x.x. Only problem is our existing network is a 10.0.0.x network. I disabled the 100 Mbps card. OK. Went to change the properties of the connection and was greeted with a "you do not have sufficient priviliges to change this" dialog box. But I am logged in as the domain administrator!

I am sure this is due to the server being the Domain Controller, but I can't seem to get around it.

How do I give the new Gigabit adapter the TCP/IP settings of the old 100Mbps adapter?

Thanks!

The ip address of 169.152.x.x is a private ip address that is assigned to the card if it cannot obtain a dhcp ip address or if the network connection is not connected. check your network cable, etc..

Hi Chris,

Yes, that's what's happening. The cards, cabling, and drivers are all fine. I just cannot modify the properties of either network adapter (the old active 100Mbps one or the new inactive Gigabit) to adjust the TCP/IP settings!

The error I get is:
"you do not have sufficient privileges for accessing connection properties"

Any suggestions? Spent about 3 hours last week checking to see if Group Policy was restricting access (it wasn't)...

Thanks

have you tried to release and renew your ip address to see if you get a different one.

Did you check in Group Policy under User Config->Admin Templates->Network->Network and Dial-up Connections?

Phil,

That was it! The previous admin had applied a restrictive policy that prohibited access. Set every policy in this branch to "disabled", and I now have full access.

Thanks!
