We had a hard drive failure in CMDU 0 on a 61C. I have it back up and working after reseating the CMDU but now need to replace it. Do I just disable the bad one and replace it or do I need to restore to the new one from my back up before it will work?

You need to split the cores and follow the procedure in the NTP's (run installation, then syncronize cores) if done correctly, you will never lose dialtone.

Thanks mluckie1 but I need more help. I have 10 diskettes that were left here when the switch was installed. Which ones do I use to reload? Can you explain the procedure to do this? Sorry for asking for details but I have never done this before and don't want to mess it up.

Ask your Vendor for help. You need to be sure you do this the right way....

yes do the install after you replace the cmdu, have the working cmdu in maint, and the cni's disabled on the non working side. go through the full install procedure for the cmdu. connect a laptop to j25 on the non working cmdu and boot (reset button, non working side only) the off of the a drive.. with disk 1 in the drive you will boot to a menu. i assume you do not have a cd drive.. those are faster. be sure you have the keycode diskette in hand, you will be asked to put that disk in the door and hit return. you will be asked for each disk one at a time. pick the option to install a saved data base, then your backup disk will need to go in. i don't remember on that style (non cd) but if you have the option to restore customer data base from the active side, it is faster. after your through, remove all disk, the software will boot that side into service. because your cni's are still faceplate diaabled you will be able to check your software to make sure the data base is correct... ld 81 cnt sets is not a bad place to check. once you feel like the data base is normal, make all switches normal, taking the working cpu out of mail LAST.. the screen will say sync'ing data base.. don't worry about the 30 minutes you need to wait. let it finish before logging in. (or else call your vendor).. not hard just follow the steps on the screen

Thanks for the replies, I think this is a job for the vendor.

if you don't feel safe with any change, not a bad idea. if your vendor is willing, observe and ask questions. most of us don't mind helping with casual training
