replacing a w2000 desktop with xp notebook in W2000(SBS) network

Hi,
I've got five W2000 pro desktops linked via ethernet to a Windows 2000 SBS server. I want to take out one of the desktops and replace it with an XP pro system, working wirelessly off an Apple Mac. What needs to be set up on the XP system to make this possible? Are there any changes that need to be made to the user account or other stuff on the server? I would be most grateful for any advice with this.

Why are you going to run a PC through an Apple Mac? Why not just connect it to your network?

Sorry, I meant to say that I am going to run both XP and Mac OS's on the same Apple laptop and I want to use the XP part to run applications on the server when I go into the office and when I connect thru VPN from other sites. So what I am doing is simulating a PC on the Mac. What do I have to do to get this Mac based XP system to take the place of the Desktop it will replace?

Ok, that makes a bit more sense. You may need to look around for a Mac forum though, not sure if this is the right place.

You shouldn't need to do anything different from a "normal" XP desktop. If you're using BootCamp, you just boot to the XP load, join the domain, and you're off. If you're using a virtual machine, like Parallels, just start the software, run the virtual XP session, and it's just like sitting in front of a standard XP desktop.

You may have realised that I am quite a novice at this ) So there is nothing I have to do in order to let the server know that I have changed the client computer?

Assuming you have a domain environment, you'd need to remove the old PC computer accounts and then add in the new ones from the Mac. Once that's done, the user would log in with their standard windows credentials, and they should have access to all the resources that were available prior to the switch.
