Hi,

I'm planning to replace our PDC - it's getting old and flakey - with a new Dell server. However, I am planning to keep the machine's name so exsting shares, mappings etc can be kept.

I'm going to the use the MS recommended method - promote the BDC. Remove the old demoted PDC (let's call it "Bob"). Install the new kit as a BDC called Bob - with similar partitions, sahres etc. Restore files. Then promote this to the PDC.

Has anyone done this? Do clients' mappings to Bob's shares remain (provided they are all named the same, similar paermissions etc)? The machine stores the network user w2k pro profiles - will these still work, especially with regard to the first logon?

Any thoughts welcome.....

As long as the new bob has the same computer name and the same shares and the same permissions the clients wont know any different.

are the network profiles stored in user areas?
