One of the exchange servers (exchange 2003) is running out of disk space, all this drive contains are the .edb and stm files for the information store. As I don't have any room on the other partitions to move them to, my only option is replace the drives with larger ones.

My current idea is to dismount the store, copy the .edb and .stm files to a backup server, replace the drives with the newer ones, use the same drive mapping and then copy the files back.

Will this work or am I missing something?

thanks

Steve

That would indeed work.
It would be nicer if you could install the new diks into the server as well as the old ones so that you could use the old ones for logs or queues or whatever.

If that's not an option then the route you specify will be ok.

You could do that, depending on the size of your company though you might want to invest in some type of archiving software.

Our mailboxes stores where spiralling out of control we now have a consistant DB size.

The product we use is Data Migrator from Commvault Systems, there is also a sysmantec product called exchange vault.

As I say depends on the compnay though, they arent cheap.

Just stick some new drives in, assign drive letters to them and use ESM to move the STM and EDB files over. Much less chance of failure.
