Hello,

Is there a way to batch replace fonts in InDesign CS2?

Would this involve a 3rd party application? I have an INDD file created on a Mac with the font Times Bold and I want to replace it with Times New Roman Bold on my PC. I do not have the font Times.

Thanks!

Is there a way to replace it with this font every time? Also I need to replace more than one font. Is there a way to replace all the fonts with the ones I want all at once?

The Find Font and replacing them is your best option, it gives you control on what Font you want where, if you were to introduce a new font to the document then how would InDesign know what you wanted to change it to?

Your best really is to get Open Type Fonts (otf) they can be used on both platforms (Mac and Windows)

You could try getting a program like Cross Font or Fontographer that will convert fonts from Mac to Windows and vice versa.

The other option would be to use paragraph styles, and have your styles based on each other.

So if you have a Main Heading and it's Times Bold 30pt and then you have a Sub Heading, you can base the Sub Heading on the Main Heading, this makes the Main Heading the "Parent" and the Sub Heading the "Child".

So if you change the Sub Heading to Times Italic and 18 pt.

Now change the Paragraph Style for the Main Heading (the Parent) and watch what the Child style does; it mimics its parent. However, if you change the Child to a different font then it loses it's link to the Parent style for the font type.

So that means for example, if you have 30 styles and it's all Times Bold, Italic, Bold Italic, Thin, Light etc. etc. etc.

As long as they are all based on the Parent style and they all have the same font then changing just the Parent style changes all the Child styles.

There are other ways to do it too, but it's complex and involves exporting to RTFs and reimporting and setting up styles and etc.
