Hi

Is there any way to let a field repeat horizontally in the detail section of a report.

I realise that the report engine wasn't designed for this and I seriously doubt if many are. But I am hoping that someone has same clever or simple solution to this without
me having to resort to looping and concatinating strings into a memo field

Example: Normal Use

My Report

Meters
240
500
250
===
990
===

The above example has only one field in the detail section and contains only 3 records. This is pretty straightforward for the report engine. However I need my detail line to look like this :

My Report

Meters
240 500 250

Total 990

Any suggestions?

You might want to check the Access help to 'Create a multiple-column

You could use a multi-column report, as VicM said above. The column width would be wide enough to hold the value and you would tell access to populate the values across the line first, then down to a new line. Keep in mind that the column width you choose also limits the width of any control header or footer sections, so the column width must be wide enough to hold "Total 990" as well.

If you have a fixed number of values for each total, you could also try creating cross-tab query.

Thanks guys

I must admit I've never thought of using multi-column reporting before, but now that you have introduced me to it I shall definately keep it in mind for future apps. Unfortunately as wemeier mentions it does limit the display of headers and footers.

My report does have fairly long header and footer descriptions so I have opted to stick with the Looping and concatinating into a memo field which I then place in the detail line with the can grow and can shrink properties set to true.

It's a bit of a long winded approuch but it keeps the report
neat and readible

Thanks again guys - I'm grateful to have learnt something new for the day
