Renaming Windows XP User Account?? 1

Can you explain what you did, what's happening and what you're trying to achieve?
If you set up a user account as a template that you want new users to start from you just have to use the copyto feature in system properties, Advanced tab, settings button in the user profiles bit to copy the 'template' user account over the default user account. Obviously you have to perfrom this from another admin user and hidden files need to be visible. If you did this, and new users are NOT being created with template profile, there's something else at work (is this standalone, workgroup or domain environment?)
You can rename a user account - though it tends to keep its original profile name - and I don't really understand how this would help. There are 2 factors:
1. The XP computers are part of a domain (Windows 2000 Server).
2. One particular application literally has to be re-installed for every user. It's an Informix application whre environment variables have to be modified.
I'm trying to get around setting up new User Accounts every time someone leaves the company. I plan to have a generic profile based on the person's job, not their name.

I think you want to copy the 'template' profile to the netlogon share (as default user) on the server (acts the same way for roaming profiles as local default user does for local profiles). This article may be useful:-
