I renamed a user. she got married. Her Global Address List entry still reflects the old name.

I searched through the posts, but couldn't find a solution.

If I logon via OWA, I get the correct name. If I use Outlook I don't.

What in the world? Please help!

Did you also renamed the "display name" field in the user's active directory property window ?

yes. Did that.

More information.

We have two exchange servers. One 2000. One 2003. It's the 2003 one that isn't working correctly through Outlook.

If I use OWA or Outlook for anyone that has their mailbox on the Exchange 2000 server, all is good. It reflects the new name.

If I use OWA for anyone that has their mailbox on Exchange 2003 server, all is good. New Name is reflected.

The problem is for users (like me) whose mailbox is on the 2003 server and use Outlook. The GAB still reflects the old name.

Any other ideas?

GAL updates take up to 24 hours to propogate.

You can force the GAL to rebuild the list. Going by memory here, in System Manager, expand out Recipient Update Services. Right click the enterprise entry. Choose Rebuild. Right click again and choose Update Now.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

It's been 48 hours. I did the rebuild as per the instructions above already (well, the way they were listed in the Technet site). I did it twice more today.

We only have about 100 recipients, so it shouldn't take very long.

Any more ideas?

What about the event viewer ?
Are there some bad events relating to the global catalog or the ldap ?

Nope. No bad events on either mail server or on the domain controllers.

Here's the latest...it appears it be a function of Outlook cached mode for those of us who are on Outlook 2003. I went into my c:\documents and setings\name\local settings\application data\microsoft\outlook directory and removed everything about the address book. I then reopened outlook and let it rebuild the address book. It now reflects the new name.

How do I automate that? I thought changes to the GAB were supposed to replicate?

I believe it is in Outlook under Tools, Send/Receive, Offline Address Book.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Mark

I already had that option chosen under Tools... Send/Receive...

Ugh! This is driving me crazy!

You said earlier that you did a rebuild on the GAL, how about the offline address book?

Again it can take 24 hours to propogate.

Frustrating huh? I battled this beast a few weeks ago too.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Mark

DOH!!!!

Brain-fart. I was concentrating on the GAL and not the offline address book. No, I hadn't updated the offline address book. I rebuilt it now. I'll see how it goes when it rebuilds.

Thank you! Star for you!
