Hello,

is there a way to rename .bak files from the default naming that happens in an automated SQL backup job? I've been lookging through the maintenance plan and subplans, help files, online and it doesn't look like there's a way to do it in the management console. I wanted to avoid having to write a batch file to rename the files.

Thanks,
Dennis

The maint plan only uses the name naming format. What naming format are you looking to use?

MCSA (2003) / MCDBA (SQL 2000)
MCTS (SQL 2005 / Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0: Configuration / Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007: Configuration)
MCITP Database Administrator (SQL 2005) / Database Developer (SQL 2005)

Like for instance TESTDB_FULL_11022007.bak.

You will have to use a batch file to rename the file to that format from the Microsoft format.

What end result are you trying to get by renaming the file?

Just to differentiate between differential and full backup files that are in the same directory. We should probably think about creating folders for each which I believe is possible in the SQL 2005 back up options.
