Hi has anyone got any ideas i have a user that has disabled the admin share on his computer.I have tried accessing the registry remotely but obviously i don't have permission to change what i want.I know the reg key to use.I have tried everything the problem is that he has local admin rights because it's a laptop and users need local admin rights to install. If i could renable the share i could change all i wanted and would look into hiding it.All advice will be appreciated.

Thanks

You can re-enable the Admin share on the local machine by right-clicking the drive, then go to sharing. Change to 'shared as:' then type c$ (or other drive letter) and click OK.

Also you could use the net share command.

Sorry i wasn't clearer i need to do this remotely and that won't work remotely. Also i need to hide the hand that shows the share from the user. Thanks again.

If he's disabled all the shares then you won't be able to get in remotely.

This sounds more like a policy issue. Are you the admin? Why has he disabled his shares? Our policy here is that users are not allowed to change any system settings even if they have admin rights. Any transgressions are severely dealt with. This might be the best route to take.

are you operating on a domain? If so you should be able to do this remotely through server manager on the DC.

Open Server manager and select the users pc (must be logged into domain!!) and select Shared directories from the computer menu item. From here you can (re-)create shared directories.

Hope this helps
