Is there anyway to completely remove the Progams menu from the Start menu in Windows 2000 Professional?
I want to remove or hide the Programs menu to prevent a Windows Explorer window from opening when you double click the Programs menu.
What about when you hit windows key + E? Didn't you ask this a few weeks ago? There are lots of ways into explorer. If you're running a domain, you can use policies to restrict what users can do - or group policies on individual machines (though many of these seem tricky to set up).
I have disabled all other ways to open an explorer window. The only way that an explorer window can currently be opened on the machine is by double clicking the Programs menu, and I want to disable this method of opening Explorer.
Do users use any apps with a file/open menu item - with browse? I ask (as an example), because I worked on a site where the tech support was obsessed with removing access to everything - explorer included - but they never managed it (they'd have had to make workstations totally unusable).
The applications that are used do not have a file/open menu. The workstations only use a program that gives access to customer information, and the windows calculator.
The help files have been removed from Windows. The run box is disabled. The file menu is not available on any of the workstations. All windows shortcuts have been disabled.
There are no icons on the workstation desktops.
The only this left to disable is the double click on the Programs menu.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
OK probably a bad idea because it sounds too simple but why not either delete explorer.exe or rename it or wrap something around it that asks for a password to use.
Just a thought.
