Is it possible to remove a user's mailbox from Exchange if their active directory account has been deleted? The Exchange Tasks option in Exchange is gone since the AD account no longer exists, so it will not let me remove the mailbox. Is there a way around this, or will I need to restore the AD account and then remove the mailbox?

Thanks.

In Exchange System Manager: Right click the mailbox and choose PURGE.

You may also want to look at perfoming an offline defrag to recoup the space used in the database.

I've tried this, but for whatever reason the Purge option is grayed out. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks for the help.

Make certain the account you are logged in as has Full Exchange Admin rights and not just Exchange Read Only rights.

:)

The account was part of the Exchange Services and Exchange Domain Services accounts, but was not a part of the Exchange Enterprise Services. Once this was set the purge option was available.

Thanks for your help.

You need to run the cleanup agent before the purge option becomes available.
