Got a client machine that gives a startup prompt to install some software. I can't get rid of the prompt. It is something that was put on by a gambling website. You can exit the prompt without installing software, but it will prompt user on every login. This is our first XP machine here in office, so I'm still learning. Any ideas how to find and remove? I have tried msconfig, but don't see it in the startup items.

Thanks in advance.

e46fan:

Try this: Right-click the "Start" button, and then click "Properties".
On the "Start Menu" tab, click "Classic Start menu", and then click "Customize". This changes the style of the Start menu.
Click "Remove".
Open the "Programs" folder and then open the "Startup" folder.
Highlight the items in the "Startup" folder that you want to remove and click the "Remove" button.
Click the "Close" button.
Click the "OK" button twice.

Remember that Windows XP keeps several different Startup folders. Only a user with administrator rights can change all of your Startup folders.

Thanks, but I tried that already, it does not show up in the startup for any user. I have been logging in as administrator too. This thing is tough to find! I'm looking thru the registry now.

Thanks again.
