Hi,
Just curious if anybody knows of a similar command in windows 2000 to MSCONFIG in win 98, ME, and XP. I'm trying to remove some of the startup programs from a windows 2000 machine, but it is not very apparent what programs are being started at bootup. The only way I know of is either using SYSEDIT or just removing things from the startup menu. Any help is appreciated.

1stITMAN,

While the Windows XP MSConfig may work fine on Windows 2000, those providing the it for download (or any other commercial software that they do not hold the copyright to) are breaching the terms of their software license, and could be found guilty of supplying stolen goods. Moreover,
anybody downloading and using it is guilty of using pirated software.

John Barnett's comments above are not to be dismissed. I will add that there are inconsistent results in using the XP MSCONFIG.EXE, and less than satisfactory results from using the Win98x version.

A good discussion that I could not find on my first search of Tek-Tips is: thread616-642632
