When I installed a new creative sound card and software the installation leaflet advised uninstalling Quicktime.

I don't recall this being installed but it was there.

I uninstalled via the control panel.

Then every time I open up AOL a dialogue box asks if I want to intall Quicktime.

I used regedit to clear out the dozens of stray quicktime entries but I still get this irritating pop-up dialogue box.

Any ideas how to cleanse it further?

You have uninstalled Quicktime, and AOL is asking you to reinstall it ?
How about installing a free alternative ?
If AOL absolutely needs Quicktime, then installing an alternative would give you the functionality without bothering with the bloatware that is Quicktime itself.
Of course, if you absolutely don't want to see any Quicktime files at all, whatever the reader, then you'll have to find a way to hack AOL and make it stop asking the question. I don't know how to do that.

Pascal.

Not sure AOL does need quicktime.

AOL tech chat said it was nothing to do with them and to contact Apple!!

So not sure I am any the wiser.

Thanks Bcastner,

I ran the prog but did not find Qttask.exe

Deleted proramme Files/Quicktime

Am still getting the pop=up box for Quicktime!!!

What now?

It is proberbly the fact that a QT (or other) streaming video is on the AOL website. It's asking you to install it to view the ad or whatever, similar to Flash if it's not installed.
I'd suggest installing one of the alternative players

The other possibilty is that a file type is still registered to Quicktime and is trying to launch it, can't find it, so is asking you to install. You need to find the file association and change it to say possibly media player.
