I am running low on space on the C drive of my Windows 2000 Server. I have found several other posts and followed the suggestions for removing the Service Pack Uninstall files from the WINNT folder.

However, while I was in the WINNT folder, I noticed a large number of folders with the following name format:
$NtUninstallKB######, where the numbers are hotfixes from MS.

My question is: can I safely remove these files, and do you I need to make any registry changes in order to do so?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thanks a ton,

you can remove them, you just won't be able to uninstall the hotfixes. I just moved all my uninstall folders to a different network drive a few weeks ago. that way I can put a file back if I need to do an uninstall (which I doubt).

No worries!

Hope this helps,
Corie

in disk cleanup in system tools I think it has that as one of the options to clean up...

I could be mistaken though

As Tahoe2 did, I moved the hotfix uninstall folders to another drive. Problem is remembering to restore them to the original local if you need to remove a hotfix.
Had to remove one patch on a TS server, I remembered to copy the uninstall folder back to the original but during the removal of the patch, two other uninstall folders were needed; had to reinstall the patch, and uninstall it again... extra nonsense.

If you are still down on space...

On all my server installs for Win2000, I do not install any server based programs to c:\program Files unless absolutely necessary. It might be worth unstalling programs running from sub directories of c:\program Files to another partition. APC battery backup software, and only a couple of small programs balked at running from another folder on a different partition.

Look carefully for programs which create .tmp files/temp folders on the system partition, Symantec CE AV is notorious for creating a gig or more of temp files
