I have recently upgraded from 2000 to 2003 and I was going to remove a former 2000 DC from the network. I dcpromo'd it about a month ago and I just went in and disjoined it from the network, rebooted it and then shut it down.

Under ADUC, the account shows up as being disabled but when I try and delete it, is says:

Object (servername) is a container and contains other objects. Are you sure you want to delete object (servername) and the objects it contains? This operation could take a long time if (servername) contains a large number of objects.

When I choose to delete, it says:

The object (servername) (or some of the objects it contains) cannot be deleted becasue: Access is denied.

Any ideas?

Looked at adsiedit and noticed that the security on that object was read only for domain admins...All the other computer/server accounts have full control for security...

Wonder why this server was read only????

Gave admins full access and deleted the account.
