On a locked down server, both the username and password are blank. If I login into the server remotely, it shows the name of the last user who logged in. I've trawled through all sorts of stuff on the net but I haven't found any policy that stops a remote user logging in on terminal services not to be presented with a name at the login prompt.

It is basically a level of security. If the user only has to type in a password, then it is only one thing to guess. If they have to type the username as well as password then it is two thngs to guess.

How do I get the remote login not to display the user name.

The default login ID for it is what you set in the Terminal Services client. Before logging in, click Options then clear the username then click OK.

Thanks - it works. So basically I need to store the .rdp file without setting any default filename. Yup, I can live with that.

It appears you are using Remote Desktop.

The .RDP file stores the last username "you" used from your workstation. However, if you were to connect from another workstation that you haven't used Remote Desktop from before, the username won't appear since you're starting with a fresh .RDP file.

So other users/computers in the domain won't know what username was successfully tried in the past.

Yes, I am using remote desktop but not always with a .rdp file. I'll have to try it from other workstations tomorrow.

This terminal server stuff is a bit strange. I can have 2 logons: one local and one remote. When I run something using wshremote, some things happen on the remote logon screen and others happen on the local logon screen. I have yet to figure out when it does what. I guess the solution is not to logon remotely and use wshremote at the same time!
