We ahve a win2k server that was the first AD server in our domain. We have a single domain with a number of win2k3 servers as other DC's. Also this server has exchange 5.5 loaded on it but none of the services are running. We have now upgraded to exchange 2003 & it is running on other win2k & win2k3 servers (backend & frontend). We wish to remove exch 5.5 once & for all & remove this old server from AD & then possibly from the domain. We have transfered all roles accross to the other DC's. We would like to here your thoughts & what process we should use. Any problems that you came accross & solved would also be helpfull.

Things to remove from the old server
FSMO roles (you said you already did that)
DNS, including zone transfers
DHCP
WINS, including replication
Global Catalog
file shares & any login scripts that map to them
even though you moved the PDCe role, did you set time sync up on the new holder?

With Exchange 5.5, is the ADC installed? If so, remove all connection agreements and then remove the ADC, then Exchange.
