Remove a Domain Trust

I have a forest domain that has two domains existing within it. Neither of them are a child of the forest domain. Both are trees in forest.
Forest: ABC.com
Domains: DEF.com ; GHI.com

Problem, one of the domains (DEF.com) was not being used so I just ignored the it until the DC failed (No chance for DCPromo). Now at the forest level ABC.com both domains are still trusted "Tree Root"
I want to remove all references from my forest (ABC.com) to the Tree (DEF.com)
I have pillaged DNS of anything remotely related to the domain.
I have removed the server from the site and removed all ntds settings regarding the server.
I have tried doing a metadata cleanup through ntdsutil and am able to select the domain but when I step back and try to remove it I get a failure.

DsRemoveDsDomainW error 0x2015(The directory service can perform the requested operation only on a leaf object.) metadata cleanup:

It wouldn't be a big deal if I didn't have to create a forest to forest trust to the domain (DEF.edu)

How do I get rid of this lingering trust to a no longer existing domain.

Thanks in advance

Thanks AD but this is my error message after this process
The RDN of a domain name must be of type domain component

I tripled checked my syntax while trying to remove.
Any other ideas?

interesting

sounds like you may need to manually strip out the TDO (trustdomainobject)
