Basically we have a customer with a central office they have about 4/5 care homes situated in different places, i want to know is there a way we can configure a SIP phone remotely. so one phone being in each of the care homes dialling out over the central office phone system. some additional info each care home has its own router running there own internet.
i know if i put 5610s in there they would work due to VPN
anyone know if this is possible?

If the 5610s work over VPN then use a 9608 instead, SIP is not secure

the problem i have is that the customer has just bought some 3rd party ip licenses and they want to use these dect phones...is it possible to do this?

Use a hardware VPN for the dect Phone.

we have explored this avenue. The care homes all have routers that dont support VPN. so all i really want to know is if you can set these IP phones up remotely on other site away from main site.
if not we will have to go down the route in getting the customer to invest in a more expensive router which does supprt VPN...but we really are trying to avoid this.

You can't do it period.
Go for a VPN as this is the best way.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

A peer to peer VPN is mandatory and not that costly, one weekend a hacked system costs a lot more, I hear sums upto € 30.000.....

okay cool cheers thats all i needed to know :)

If they all have smart phones you can use a SIP client on them. 8.1+ supports external remote SIP without VPN. Good luck! ;-)
