We are currently running Exchange 2000 and Outlook 2000, and are trying to determine best method of setting up our staff that travel a lot.

OWA is being used in some instances, but is not providing the functionality we need.

Our ideal situation would be to syncronize the files on leaving the office. Then be able to connect to the Exchange server over the Internet while away.

I have tried to get the Dialup/Remote connection working but have had no luck thus far. I created a manual host reference to test this.

Our system is running a Linux firewall and has a NAT reference to our Exchange server.

Are there any pieces I am missing to get this working? Or will it not work? Do I need to look at POP3 or RAS connections. As I am fairly new to Exchange any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The best solution would be RAS, however you may want to consider configuring IMAP rather then pop3. Here are the differences:

pop3: Client side intensive, downloads all messages (no choice here)

imap: Server side intensive, choice of which messages to download.

RAS will give you option to synchronize. If you are looking for a soltion that will sych all email, then forget imap amd pop3 and simply configure RAS.
