What would one suggest for a remote desktop. I have a user that needs to work on a 280r but he is unfamiliar with Solaris entirely. I could care less about desktops since I'm always in terms. Any suggestions? XDMCP? xhost? GNOME? KDE?

I would stick with CDE through XDCMP if you can...KDE is also a good alternative. I have not really been to impressed with GNOME on Solaris it seems to always slow the system down.

Depending on how remote the user is I would also consider using VNC, which is great for WAN or other slow links.

Annihilannic.

I'm having a problem getting my X server to play nice. I have a Solaris 10 box on a client site. When I'm at home I can access it through the VPN using VNC just fine. When I'm in my office, I can't. I can ssh to it using PuTTY no problem. I had no problem with this until I got a new workstation. Ever since, I can't get a remote X display in the office. I've tried playing with gdm, but it won't establish a socket with XDMCP.

Any suggestions?
