I use remote desktop to tap into several servers, but on in particular is different from all the rest. It's a newly established Win2k3 server. When I tap into it with Remote Desktop, it tells me that there are two other previous sessions still running. I recognize the time stamp on one of them as the being the last time I checked in, but I don't know why the other is there. When I exit, I just use the X on the tab at the top of the RD window, and I acknowledge the message which says this will end my windows session. So why does it seemingly not end my session?

You should choose Run->logoff to end the session.

Instead of just disconnecting from a session or closing the remote desktop window, log off – this will free up resources for other users.
