Click on tab use local resource yad yad but the only printer shows up is the ones on the local machine not from the one I am using to remote into... And I need to print from the one going into the remote machine, Ant thoughts Thank you

We had a similar problem, and as I rememeber remote desktop only supports printing to your local client (which was what M$ was talking about) not the remote machine.

In the end we used Citrix as it was a critical system which is soooo expensive. Anyway there may be cheaper solutions out there.

I am not too sure of which machine you are trying to print from or to, anyway see if there is anything here to help?

If there isn't, can you use Print to File as an alternative, and later take or transfer that file to the Printer or machine you wish to print to?

Printing to a file instead of a printer

Check the Event Viewer on the computer you are connecting to, and see if there are errors relating to the printer... you may need to install the correct printer drivers on it.

guitarzan is right. If the print driver for the printer is not present on the remote desktop "host" (the server that you are connecting to), then an error will be logged in Event Viewer.

Now the other possibility is that the client PC (the one you are connecting from) is using a network printer. Network printers on the client are not supported over Remote Desktop. Only LPT, COM, or USB printers are. Hence the reason why "Printers" is under the Local devices section of the Remote Desktop settings.

Here's an article with more information:

If you do have a local printer attached to the client and still have problems, let me know. I'll show you how to get around the driver issue.

So what cdoog is saying is that I have to have the print driver (From the remote client)installed on the server (the one I aming trying to VPN into and print from??? IF so Why don't MS say about installing in in their FAQ ??? Or is it Billy being Billy ????
Thanks RCT

Not sure what you mean by their "FAQ", but the link I posted above is to Microsoft XP's Product Documentation section.

Also, don't forget that you cannot print to a network printer that is mapped to the client using Remote Desktop, unless both the server and client are on the same network (or don't have firewalls, so that you can map by IP address).

If you need additional help, post the make/model of the printer you are trying to print to, and whether it's on a parallel (LPT) or USB port.
