Remote Desktop Connection direct to workstations?

Hello -

noobie on the server administration side of things -

Got a Windows 2k3SBS with ISA acting as a gateway with a real static IP address, and our local network is hiding behind it with static "dummy" IPs.

Is there a way to dial straight into each workstation without first logging into the server?

I saw a similar post "thread96-1114561" from last year. I think it was a basic answer of NO to my question, but I figured some time has passed so perhaps things have changed.

I want to make sure I am clear on what you are asking???
You want to be able to connect to each workstation in your environment via Remote desktop? If the workstations are XP the answer is yes. You would set up Remote Desktop option, on the computer you want to access, from the Remote tab in the System Properties (right-click My Computer).

By default, only the local admin and members of the local Administrators group have access. From your workstation you can install Remote Desktops or type MSTSC from command line to start a session. This should all work within your LAN.

The server would not be involved in this solution.

Now, if you want to do this from outside of you network, I would not suggest opening the RDP port on your firewall. There are other solutions for this like Citrix and others....

For starters you should be posting an SBS2003 question in the SBS forum and not Windows 2000 forum. forum1584

A user connected via VPN can connect directly to a workstation using IP or name (if they have configured DNS for the VPN right).

Using RWW is a far easier solution.
