We are going to be aqquring a new email server that is hosted by a 3rd party company. We need to backup the data on this server at the same time as our current scheduled backup. Am I correct in thinking that I just need install the agent on the new server. If so how do I do it, as it isnt on our internal LAN. I did notice that you can manually add a computer by specifing domain and computer name. Would this work for a PC that isnt on our internal LAN???

Many thanks

Im not sure if its possible but if you can specify the ip address it should work.

But if you use an external link do you have enough bandwidth to send the data thru? I can see a hughe amount of data getting transfered everynight and then if you have verify on even more. If your link isn't very fast this backup might take extremely long to complete.

Also if you have a firewall you probably need to open port(s) to allow communcation to the remote agent.

If your email server is hosted by a diffrent company I don't understand why they can't do the backup? Which I would have thought is their responisbility as its hosted by them and if its goes down they will have to restore it.

That was my argument to my boss about them doing the backup. He said that he wants it all done on the same schedule/tape as all of our other backups. Stupid really, but I am going to push for them to do the backups instead of me!!!

Thanks for the response, and I will have a look into what you said and bear it in mind if my boss refuses to buge!!!

Cheers
