All of a sudden my customer is unable to dial *17 on their IPO500 V1 and automatically login to their mailbox. The short code is *17 VMCollect "?U", but when they dial it they receive the message "Remote Access is not configured on this mailbox", even though 1-they are calling from their own phone and source number has V[ext no] and 2-remote access IS configured. I tried creating a new short code but no luck. I had to provide a work-around by entering user short codes *17 VMCollect "?xx" (where xx=their extension number). They are now working as they did before but the system short code *17 does not work anymore. Tried upgrading to 7.0.32 but same issue. Anyone else had this problem?

Is this embedded or VM Pro? The old embedded cards were kind of flakey, often a reboot resolves such oddness :)

you still need a pin on the user account under voicemail - have you checked it hasnt been removed?

You shoudn't need a pin for local checking of your own extn vm though :)

VM does have a PIN. I have rebooted. I have upgraded software. Still same issue with "?U". If I change to "?" without the U, I can press # and get to the mailbox.

Check in monitor which mailbox is opened when dialling *17 with "?U", it sounds like it opens an different mailbox as the users mailbox.
If it is embedded vm then the directory structure is corrupted.

If it ain't dutch it ain't much
