Trying to setup RRAS for incoming client (Dialin TCP/IP). RRAS set up on standalone server in domain with single 2k server hosting dhcp and dns wins etc. Inhouse connections all machines ok.
Dial in logs on with lease from DC/DHCP server using AD user name and pwd with admin level access. Client running 98. Connection shows in RAS as connected client. Client unable to find any machines in "network neighborhood\entire network". Error msg "Unable to access Entire Network". Client able to ping all machines on network, via IP address or FQDN. Tracert shows routing thru internal on RAS machine and onto network.

Could use some help in figuring out what I am missing.

Thanks for the input,
David

This sounds like a name resolution problem. You could try using lmhosts.

I might think so, but pinging the domain name of a given machine...eg station1.somedomain.com, from the dial up client resolves to the ip address leased out by the domain dc/dhcp server. It would seem that porting an lmhost file out to the dial up client is a bit difficult in and of itself. No?

Thanks for the suggestion

I know on my VPN, at home I cannot see the network in Network Places, either. I simply use a RUN command \\servername\share, and that seems to work for me... Matt Wray

Solved....

Problem was with client setup..

Username from default windows logon was being passed to network as user name which was incorrect. Changed settings and now all works as expected.

Now have 2k network setup with DNS, DHCP, RRAS with persistant internet connection (ppp), NAT, and Remote Access thru second modem.

Will post faq on full setup of RRAS from scratch if anyone is interested. Have not integrated VPN. No highbandwidth
connection available at this physical location, and standing IP address is not available thru dialup connection.

(Note on "Run" option mentioned in above post. This will work, but not on legacy DOS apps that require a pif to path the working dir.)
