Getting strange error messages, not sure what to check. DNS on the server is setup to forwarded requests to our ISPs DNS server.

The message we're getting is:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: Driving directions from MSN Maps & Directions
Sent: 6/14/2005 4:07 PM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

stayfit1954@msn.com on 6/14/2005 4:08 PM
550 5.7.1 <stayfit1954@msn.com>... Relaying denied. IP name lookup failed [x.x.x.x]

(<-- x.x.x.x is our public IP)

Any ideas what to check?

I'll assume you have a direct connection to the internet - no smarthost configured.
I'll assume this isn't occurring for all mail recipients - just some domains.

In your Default SMTP Virtual Server properties->Advanced Delivery what is your masqeurade domain set to or fully-qualified domain set to?

Try changing them to your pubilc DNS MX record name (e.g. mx1.domain.com), restart services and retry.

Thanks for the reply. Nothing in the "masquerade domain" box, and the fully qualified domain name (domain.com) is in the FQDN box. However, I think my issue is this:

We host 2 mail domains on our network, domain1.com and domain2.com. We receive mail for both domains fine. The FQDN in the FQDN box in the SMTP Virtual Server settings is the FQDN of domain1....the users having trouble are on the domain2.com domain. Do I need to add another virtual server?

I think I figured it out...something goofy on the client(s) side. They had an old POP3 connection setup, and somehow it reset to default, with Exchange being the secondary. Changing the default back to Exchange seems to have resolved the issue.
