How do I setup Exchange to allow for different domains to relay through Exchange.

AD domain = abcdomain.local
Email Domain = domain1.com & domain2.com

I want users to access OWA (already setup) but they can't send to an outside domain. When I telnet into the server it gives me the "550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for Joe.Jones@OutsideDomain.com"

Any thoughts or links?

in recip. policy specify that your users have both SMTP domains/addresses and they will be able to authenticate and send emails. This is assuming that ur hosting both of domains...if not then add server that you want to relay through yours.
All the best!

I have added the domains to the Recipient Policy and the users (within AD) have their proper email address associated with them. However, they can not send email. They can receive it just fine, but even when they reply it with not be sent out.

Even through telnet it still tells me they are unable to relay. The messages aren't even being Queued in the message queue area. What else could I possible try?

Right now.. nobody can send out of the server (good thing this isn't a production server).

Is there a way to diagnose this issue through logs or monitoring?

Hey Magnum1976,
ok now we are on the differnt issue.
"Even through telnet it still tells me they are unable to relay."
- good, it means your server is not open relay. There are also ways for anonymous and authenticated telnet tests.

"The messages aren't even being Queued in the message queue area"
- ok, let look at your ways of sending email because most likely server is
(1) rejecting you access or
(2) SMTP server is mis)(configured

How are you trying to send emails - only through OWA?
How about trying to use outlook?
Do you get prompted for any user athentication?
Is the client machine part of/on the same domain?
Any info on client side would be good to eliminate as possible cause then you can focus on server side...

All the best!

Figured out what was the issue. Everything was configured correctly, but my ISP was blocking outbound SMTP traffic. They opened it up after I asked, but you have to ask because by default they block the traffic.

Thanks for all your help.

there u go...sometimes its true...nothing wrong on your end is the answer ;-).
It would be a good idea to ask your ISP to build a 'Reverse DNS Entry' on their DNS server as well.

All the best!
